The research group investigates the physical properties of complex fluids using polarizing microscopy, high speed imaging, reometry, electro- and magneto-optics, dielectric spectroscopy and numerical simulations (e.g. discrete element method).

Systems currently in focus:

  • Various effects induced by external fields (e.g., reorientation, phase transitions, instabilities, pattern formation) in anisotropic soft materials (e.g., liquid crystals, ferronematics, polymers)
  • Dynamics of granular materials and suspensions
  • Crystal structure and defect type formation in electrodeposited metals
  • Study of electric and magnetotransport phenomena
